Chivalry or self-preservation?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

My brother was aboard the jeepney when all of a sudden, someone snatched a girl’s necklace. It was chaos after that. The man beside the girl told her that he noticed the snatcher already but was just too afraid of what might happen to him so he didn’t say anything. My brother was so angry. He said that the guy should have done something, probably grab the snatcher because he was so near. He would have done so, said my brother.

Of course, when we heard what he said, we castigated him. Snatchers, robbers and other street criminals carry a weapon with them all the time. There were local news reports about those who defended themselves against these snatchers and got stabbed in return. Worse, some were even shot by these criminals! We don’t want that to happen to my brother, or to anyone else for that matter. The trick these days is to just stay calm and give the robber what he’s asking or just let the snatcher go. Whatever’s been taken from you can be bought back. Your life can’t be.

Life preservation is better. Unless you see someone being killed and you have the capacity to defend him/her, then do so. If not, better run as fast as you can or go to the nearest police station and let the authorities handle it. Call me a coward or selfish but these criminals have nothing to lose so they won’t think twice about killing you.

Our fear

Friday, July 31st, 2009

My sister and I need diet pills that work! We are not getting any younger but we are getting bigger and bigger :( It’s too bad that it’s also in our genes that as we grow older, we also cannot help but become overweight. It’s in our family.

I have an aunt who was the sexiest among the girls in our family. But when she got married and had a kid, the weight that was added to her during her pregnancy retained. She couldn’t do anything about the weight anymore. So my sister and I were talking about being overweight and our fears that in the years to come, we might suffer even worse fate in the weight department than our aunt’s.

bourne-ultimatum

The Bourne Ultimatum in HBO. I really like Matt Damon. Ever since I saw him in Good Will Hunting, I’ve been a fan. The Bourne series is one of my favorites.

I’ll be back later… will have to concentrate on Matt for now hehe

Climb the corporate ladder

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Once upon a time, I thought of pursuing a higher education. When I inquired with a local university, they told me that classes are only in the morning and that I have to be a full time student in my first year. Of course, I didn’t pursue it. I didn’t have the luxury of time back then, working at least 12-hour shifts on weekdays.

Now, there is an option for a professional like me who wants to take up their masters or PhD without having to compromise their work. Get the degree online from Capella University. They are offering graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, human services, psychology, public health, and public safety as well as some bachelor’s degree programs for those who are still undergraduate.

Even getting a degree now has became easier. Know more about the university at Capella.edu and take up your master’s and climb that corporate ladder.

Big coward!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I saw this “great” ex-friend go online the other day. I buzzed him, thinking he might talk to me. But you know what he did? He logged off. Or became invisible to me probably. I sent him a message anyway: you’d think you’d have the decency to at least say sorry for what you did to me! grabe ka talaga! nasira ka na ng mga kalokohan mo sa buhay!

He didn’t respond, of course. He became a big coward when he got afflicted with that disease. It makes me think that his liver is not the one affected but his brains. He lost it! Imagine screwing the one person outside his family who’s most concerned about him…

Day care issues

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We are currently having issues with the day care where Hazel goes for some schooling daily. Lately, we’ve been noticing that Hazel’s having the “p and f” syndrome. You know where her p’s become f’s and vice versa. Then, we’re also noticing that she’s becoming like tomboy, mimicking some actions that she obviously didn’t learn here at home.

We’re thinking of pulling her out but her mom insists on continuing her lessons there. We just think that she has another agenda and that her daughter’s education is far from that. The day care gives away so many freebies from local politicians and her mom loves it! My dad talked to her mom, telling her our observations but she’s deaf to it.

It’s so hard to explain to a person who cannot even comprehend what you were saying in the first place!

Life enhancement supplies

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Some of us are not lucky enough to be given good health. In every family, there’s usually someone sick and in need of medical attention. We’ve been there so many times in the past. I know the feeling of being besieged by expenses left and right. Thus, any help will really come as a blessing. Especially with the prices of the supplies you need.

Sun shining brightly today

smannex

Lately, I’ve been feeling the need to go out of the house whenever I see the sun shining brightly. It’s been raining for the past few weeks here in Manila. Nobody goes out unless to go to the office or the church. So when the sun shone brightly today, I felt like going to the mall.

I have tons of things to finish today so going out is not an option. I stayed inside and made sure I look out my window from time to time. Just to look at the rays of sun… and imagine I am out enjoying the day without worrying about how to go about completing every thing on my to-do list.

My grandma's birthday dinner

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Last July 21st, we celebrated my paternal grandma’s nth birthday. It was a surprise dinner for her. One of my aunts was teasing her about not having any sort of celebration for her birthday. According to my aunt, grandma’s already pouting, seemingly hurt that nobody remembered to greet her on her special day.

And then 6pm came. She was surprised my two aunts who live elsewhere came with gifts for her and some cakes. Then my uncle who lives in Makati came with my aunt and their yummy pansit! Then, our whole family came with food, together with another aunt and little cousins.

My grandma was touched. She didn’t expect the surprise dinner for her. It was so much fun! In our family, we are used to celebrating our birthdays, even with just a tub of ice cream and a slice of cake. It somehow makes the day extra special for each one of us.

Get the help of a specialist

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I had this notion before that placing an online ad will bring in traffic to your web site just like that. Boy was I disabused of that notion by a friend of mine who knows. Those who are clueless about online advertising should get the advice of a cpa advertising specialist before pushing through with their ads.

There are companies who ask their clients to pay for every click of their ads. Those clicks don’t even generate sales. I have a friend who has an online business he wanted to launch a couple of months ago. He bought advertising spots in a major online ads company thinking it might help get his business name around. Unfortunately, he spent quite an amount and very little traffic as a result. Nothing more. Obviously, he had no idea what he was doing and was lured into spending for nothing.

That’s why there’s Status Media Plc. A link building company uk who can help those people like my friend who are clueless on how to go about promoting their businesses online. There’s link building, search engine optimization, and pay per click management.

A lot of online business who are into online advertising spend a lot of time and money in making sure their advertisements will really bring in the numbers. But as I’ve said, there are so many people out who are clueless. Or those who knew little but decided to go ahead and risk it. For those who are thinking about advertising online or promoting their business through another way, go to Status Media Plc and get the specialist on online advertising. Their team have been doing these things for more than five years now so you can really call them specialists.

Spend your hard earned money on a company that will give your business results. Go to StatusMediaPlc.com now.

WS: Sophie's Day at Jollibee

hazelsophie

(L to R) Birthday girl, Sophie, with her dad and Hazel with the party host. The boy wearing a yellow shirt is Anna's son, Dexter.

Last July 12, Hazel and I attended my goddaughter’s first birthday party. Sophia Louise, or Sophie, is my friend, Tim‘s daughter. Sophie’s first birthday celebration was held at Jollibee Green Meadows branch. Jollibee, for those who are not Filipinos, is the most popular fastfood here in the Philippines. McDonald’s come in second.

Hazel joined the longest contest...

Most parents who can afford it celebrate their kids’ birthday parties at Jollibee branches. The mascots and the food are kids’ favorites. Filipino kids grew up with Jollibee. It is only natural that my beautiful goddaughter celebrated her first birthday there.

Happy Birthday, Sophieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

So Hazel’s been practicing reciting “Happy birthday, Sophie” holding her breath. Unfortunately, she got hoarse when it was time for her to recite it! She was really excited. At least she got a consolation prize hehe

I’ve never seen our little girl as active as when she’s at Sophie’s party. Nakakatuwa sobra! She had lots of kwento when she got home, exhausted from joining the contests but still smiling. Sophie’s party was really a blast!

I would like to thank Anna of A Commuter’s Life for the photos above. I forgot to bring the digicam with me (darn!) so these are the only photos I have.

Happy Sunday everyone! Have a great week!

For a brief review of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, please visit my blog, The Bookworm Confessions.

I enjoyed watching the movie yesterday with my sisters and Hazel. After watching it, I actually can’t wait for the next one to be shown. I know that the last book, Deathly Hallows, is being adapted into two movies. The first part is being targeted to be released by 2010 and the last part on 2011. It’s still a long way to go and I am hoping that the Harry Potter series will end with a big bang!

Have you watched the movie already? What do you think?

Today…

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

We’re off to watch Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince later in the day. Hazel, me and my two sisters. We are really excited and couldn’t wait for the weekend so we are opting to watch on opening day. Yay!

So I will be back online again tonight. And I will tell you about the movie by then.

For now, I’m off to bed to get me some shuteye.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Thank you!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

I noticed that my feed subscribers went up to 50+ already! Yey! Thank you so much to each and every one of my subscribers. Rest assured that I update this blog as much as possible. There are days when I write more than two entries a day. Like today. I think I’ve written around 15 entries already. There are days when it takes me three days to a week before I update again. If I don’t feel like writing anything down, you won’t see an update here. But if I feel like ranting and raving, then more entries come up ;)

Thank you, subscribers! If you have suggestions for this blog, just let me know.

Have a good night everyone!

Make a wise decision

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

There is nothing wrong with using tools that can help you achieve your goals. Like the options trading tool called PowerOptions, the only internet-based data provider that can give investors out there a patented decision support technology. SmartSearchXL can identify the highest return option trades.

PowerOptions can give you the timely and accurate date you need to be able to decide wisely on an investment. This is really good, especially it would be unwise to make financial decisions these days wherein you are not sure of the outcome.

If you are interested, go to PowerOpt.com now and take advantage of their 14-day free trial.

I was wrong :(

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

One of my few close guy friends, Benedict, saw an old friend recently. She and I were really close back in high school. Really tight. She was my best friend.

We lost our communication back in 3rd year college, when she got hooked on drugs. She became an independent and gone all sorts of crazy. We, Jhing and I, tried to intervene, bring her back to the right side. But she didn’t want it to happen. She avoided us like the plague. I heard that she hooked up with a married man. And that there were even whispers of freaky things happening in their house. We talked to her mom but even she couldn’t do anything. When a person is drug dependent, no one can make him or her stop. It’s got to be him/her who has to. All efforts of people around them will fall on deaf ears.

Anyway, Benedict said that she acted crazy. She looks like a druggie once again. She’s already a mother of two, the last time I checked. It’s been a decade already and I thought she’s changed for the better. I was wrong.

Facebook account… soon!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

My friends have been asking me to open a Facebook account already. They know that I haven’t been updating my Friendster account for months now, although I pop in to check updates and messages from time to time. I don’t like having too many accounts. It is hard to maintain so many social networking accounts and when I open one, I make sure that I really update it. With Friendster, I got tired of it because I realized I’ve been following too many people I don’t have any connection with anymore.

Oh well, more of this Facebook/Friendster dramz in my life in the next few posts…

In my next post, I already have a Facebook account. I have decided to finally open one, exclusive to those people with whom I really feel like being connected with.

Wise to invest

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

It is wise to invest your excess funds to something that will earn you more money. Or to something the value of which will increase over time. Like silver. I know your sentiments. You don’t know where to buy one that is genuine.

Let me tell you something about the Monex Deposit Company. Monex has been in the business of gold, silver and other precious metals and coins for over 30 years now. They have been instrumental in making buyers meet legitimate sellers. So if you are really interested in investing your money, go to Monex.com and let the experts help you out.

Win people to your way of thinking

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009
  1. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
  2. Show respect for the other person’s opinions. Never say, “You’re wrong.”
  3. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
  4. Begin in a friendly way.
  5. Get the other person saying “yes, yes” immediately.
  6. Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
  7. Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
  8. Try honestly to see things from the other person’s point of view.
  9. Be sympathetic with the other person’s ideas and desires.
  10. Appeal to the nobler motives.
  11. Dramatize your ideas.
  12. Throw down a challenge.
