A more coherent update
This is a more coherent update…
I rented a computer yesterday to be able to do some pending tasks. I am doing it again right now because the internet connection as well as landline services of Bayantel have not yet been restored. It’s a lot of hassle, to tell the truth. I would have been more understanding if ALL telecom services are down as well. But PLDT’s services are up and running even through the storm. I know their landline service is okay. I don’t know with their DSL but my guess is they also have it.
Anyway, so there were floods in our neighboring streets. All gone now, thank God. There was a fire during the raging storm last Saturday in Agno Ext. which is a block away from us. We all panicked because the fire was transferring to other properties through the electric line. I packed all my important stuff including my laptop, external harddrive and other gadgets. My sisters packed the important documents and some clothes. We really thought it might cross the street to the building in front of my grandma’s house and if that happened, it would mean evacuation time for all of us in our neighborhood. There were firetrucks everywhere but they could not get near the property where the fire started because of the neck-deep and two-storey deep floods. I’ve been hearing that the street next to ours can go as high as almost six feet in flood waters. But it was only on Saturday that I saw it when I went to check what’s happening. I saw a man trying to walk through the murky flood water and his head was the only thing we could see of him. It was scary!
I am thankful that we may not like the state of our neighborhood anymore (what with all the new dubious faces, the squatter-like feel of it, the environment itself), but during an emergency like last Saturday, the original neighbors are still out full-force to help each other out. It’s actually changing our mind about relocating. Why would we want to transfer somewhere else when we are safe and dry whenever there’s a raging storm like Ondoy, right? We’re changing strategies about next year already. I am thankful. We are all thankful for being safe and dry last Saturday.
Which was the least you can say about the other people in this country, especially those from Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal and in Metro Manila even, particularly in Pasig, Marikina, Makati and here in Quezon City. Have you noticed that the calamity brought down the division between the rich and the poor? Everyone’s a victim, and a concerned fellowmen. Everyone’s helping each other out. The multinational companies and other local companies have pledged their help already. We all need each other right now.
Please pray for all the victims of Bagyong Ondoy (Tropical Storm Ondoy/Ketsuna). We really need prayers right now. So many people were left dead, injured or displaced by the storm and I do hope everyone will be able to rebuild their lives after this.
Have a safe week to everyone!

I’m glad that you and your family are safe from harm. I’m sorry to hear about the flood and fire that caused havoc to your neighboring streets.
Storm Pepeng is now here in the Philippines. Stay safe. God bless.
