Learn and train

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Some college courses require the students to undergo on-the-job training. This is part of the learning process of the student, to get to know what’s really out there and what entails the course they took. I know that some students find a hard time looking for a company who will really give them the kind of work they will do. Instead they are always given menial tasks just to complete the hours needed to pass the subject.

With the Arkansas Cosmetology School Regency Beauty Institute, students are training while studying. They are doing both while in campus! They are supervised by the faculty while applying what they learned through services offered to the public.

So students who want to go into the beauty industry, make sure you check out RegencyBeauty.com and see how you can learn and train at the same time.

Preparing for school

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

It’s back to school once again. Parents are preparing the school supplies their kids would need. Good thing that my brother is in college so there’s not much supplies that he buys. We actually just buy school uniform and shoes for him. Hazel is going to Nursery in my alma mater. She also doesn’t need too many supplies.

I remember when we were kids. It was really chaos come May of every year. Imagine 5 of us were going to grade and high school. Every item my parents needed to buy was multiplied five times. There was also the issue of buying a new set of uniform or using the old ones. I was lucky since I am the eldest I get the new uniforms always. While my sisters get hand-me-downs most of the time.

Sometimes, when I reminisce the good old days, I miss going to school. Life was simpler back then. But who wants to take quizzes and do recitation again?! Not me!

Learning something new

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I work at home. I’ve been at this for more than three years now, close to four years actually. I haven’t any regret about leaving the corporate world. I love what I am doing now and won’t exchange it for any other kind of work. I have been a writer at heart. I may not be the best there is but I am passionate about writing. I think that amounts to something.

My only regret in the years that passed was neglecting to earn a degree online. I could have taken up a course online like web development and earn a degree from it. It would have been easy because I control my own schedule. It’s really too bad that I forgot to explore that opportunity for me to learn something new.

But there’s still time. I am still working at home at the moment. Maybe I can still enroll and earn another degree. I will explore that possibility and write about it here.

Applying for a loan

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Orson wants to know his credit score. He and his wife are planning to apply for a home loan and they want to make sure that they are both eligible because they are combining their applications into one.

I know the feeling of being too excited to apply for a loan only to find out that your credit score doesn’t qualify you to get one. It is frustrating and depressing. I once applied for a car loan. I was earning way beyond what a person with the same position as mine was earning that time. I was so excited to bring home an approved loan and tell my parents that we’re getting a car. Alas, when the application came back, it was denied. It turned out I wasn’t qualified to take out a loan that big because of my credit score.

So before you make any big plans centering on a loan, make sure you are qualified first so you won’t end up totally disappointed.

Birthday parties

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Our neighbor’s son is celebrating the kid’s 12th birthday. They are giving away personalized footballs to the kid’s friends as a party favor. I saw the footballs and I like it! I want to ask for one but I am not really close to the kid so it would be embarrassing to just walk up to their door and ask for a party favor when I am not even invited to the party. They’d probably close the door on my face!

I am not much of a party person now. But I remember when I was a little kid, I loved attending parties. Since our family is known in our area, I was always invited in almost every kid party back then. And I used to attend each and every invite I got. Not anymore. I am perfectly fine being at home. I would attend a party if the person celebrating that special day is someone really close to me. Otherwise, I’d rather spend my time working than smooching to people I hardly greet.

Good daughter and aunt

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I keep telling my aunt that she needs to get the walk in tubs that we saw in a factory outlet near their house. Her mom and dad, my paternal grandparents, need it. She’s been meaning to renovate their bathroom so it would be safe for them to take a bath but she’s postponing it again and again because of work. The other day, she told me that she’ll make me be in charge of the renovation so it can start already. I just don’t know if I can supervise it daily considering I also have a lot of work to do.

My aunt is a good daughter. She will do everything so her parents would live the rest of their lives in comfort. She married so late because she wanted to make sure first that she’s leaving my grandparents in a safe and comfortable home. She really prioritized family over herself.

I know that she will be treated the same by the people around her. She may not have her own kids but she has a lot of nephews and nieces who love her like their own.

Hesitant

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I would like to buy a netbook. My cousin is telling me not to because of the limited memory and according to him, it’s not suited for the purpose I have in mind. I just like how mobile it is. You can carry around with you in a small bag and not worry that it will attract the attention of snatchers. You don’t have to worry about its weight as well. I am asking my cousin if getting a separate computer memory to enhance the one it has. Still, my cousin is hesitant to give me the go signal. I might regret ever buying it according to him. It’s just not suited for my lifestyle.

Oh well, I think I need to listen to the expert. If he says no, then I should discard the idea of ever buying one. On to find a new laptop then…

Staying at hotels

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I love staying in hotels! I just love the comfort that one can get when staying in 3-star to 5-star hotels. When we went out of town two weeks ago, we stayed in a good hotel and my sisters and I loved it! The place was clean. The bed was so comfortable that all we wanted to do was stay in and sleep. We actually did a lot of sleeping there. It was really a good stay.

I was checking the Branson Missouri hotels and was impressed. The place looks good! My friend stayed in one of those hotels and she told me it was one of the best hotels for her. I would love to try the place out! If I only have the budget, I would go on a quest to find the best hotels in town.
