Simple goals

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Her immediate goals are very simple. One of those goals is to be able to save enough for the Zvex Fuzz Factory. A complete guitar set is what she really wants. She isn’t after anything too fancy but just a set that she can use when she feels like playing and singing.

She is an aspiring acoustic singer as well as a choir soloist. Singing and playing the guitar have always been part of her life. She grew up borrowing her older brother’s guitar and now that she has a part-time job, she promised herself that she will save enough so she can get her very own guitar.

Soon.

One step closer

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

I’ve been helping a friend of mine find work. I finally managed to talk to a former co-worker and he was able to get him interviews from his boss. Now my friend is one step closer to employment. He needs to undergo pre-employment screening and if he passes that, he will be made to sign a job contract.

It’s really hard to be without a job these days. You can find a freelance job, sure. But that is not like a steady paycheck coming in month after month. I am also feeling inclined to go back since freelance work has become unstable but I am still weighing my options.

A night to remember

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

It was a night meant for family and bonding. We spent the night at my aunt’s and we used the propane fire pit they have there. We just stayed awake the whole night until early morning. The cousins and I talked and talked about life and work and love. It was a night meant for honest conversations and confessions and we had a great time sharing what’s really happening in our lives.

When morning came, we were hesitant to leave the chairs around the pit. We still wanted to talk and continue with the bonding moments but sleep took over. We promised to do it again. Maybe next time at a beach resort over a bonfire.

Double the heartbreak

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Funeral preplanning is one of the things I will be setting aside funds for this year. I want to start paying for my funeral expenses. I don’t want to die and leave not only medical bills but funeral expenses as well. I would like for my love ones not to be burdened by having to look for money to pay for my burial and interment.

That’s what my maternal grandmother did. We already have her funeral arrangements ready because she preplanned for it. We need only call the funeral service company and they sent men to take care of things. We had the wake for a few days at no extra cost and we had her remains cremated after.

I would like to do the same thing. Prepare for my funeral now so it won’t be double the heartbreak for my love ones when I pass away.

Strolling at the mall

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

34 to 35 degrees Celsius is the normal weather here in the metro for the past couple of days. It’s like being inside an oven especially if you live in a house without air conditioning like us. So what to do to beat the heat aside from taking a bath a thousand times a day? Go to the mall!

That’s what we do. That’s what the neighbors do, too. We went there last week and we saw the neighbors with their baby in her UppAbaby Vista stroller just roaming around the mall and waiting for the sun to set so they can go home.

Instead of getting angry over the hot weather, better spend time somewhere cold like the mall. It’s free and you need not spend a dime except for transportation because you can bring your own food and you can just window shop.

Allocating funds

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

I am now applying my budgeting skills to my personal finances. I will be setting aside and allocating funds to various projects I am planning to take on this year. The immediate ones will be the tiling of various parts of the house, repainting and replacement of roof. I will also be setting aside funds for investments. I plan to buy gold coins with a friend. We will be co-investing in it. We have been talking about investing for quite a while now and we agreed that now is the best time to invest when the market is not really doing so well.

Allocating funds will be my way of making sure I am funding the important expenses of the family. I am hoping that the flow of income will increase, if not be steady.

That neighborhood store

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Growing up everyone in the neighborhood especially the kids would always go to that neighborhood store that had everything we needed. I remember going up the few steps to the store. I remember waiting for the other kids to compare candies we bought.

Fast forward to present day… that neighborhood store is already a big grocery store complete with a Retail POS System and barcode scanners at check out counters. Can you imagine the improvement the store had over the years?

Whenever I talk to my contemporaries in the neighborhood, we would reminisce about the old neighborhood store with the few steps and the small benches at the side of it.

First day at work

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Monday next week will be his first day at work. He will be using the coin cufflinks that his parents gave him. It is both a sign of their pride on him and good luck.

He was constantly reminded by his parents to do better in school. They didn’t really see him studying hard at home but what they didn’t know was before he would go home he would study already in the library. He did everything to excel in school and he did.

He graduated cum laude and was immediately signed up by an advertising agency.

Papang’s stuff

Monday, April 16th, 2012

I am not sure if Papang, my paternal grandfather, is already taking care of Nanay’s, my paternal grandmother who passed away recently, stuff. I know for a fact that whenever he sees her things he breaks down and cries. He loves her that much! They’ve been together for the past 55 years already I do believe that it will be totally hard for Papang to move on. But we will help him…

My aunt brought out a big pouch we thought contained Nanay’s stuff but it turned out it had Papang’s. There were so many things in it including a Martor USA utility knife that a family friend gave him a few years back. Nanay probably put it away so Papang wouldn’t hurt himself.

We miss her a lot. But we know it is much better for her to finally rest than suffer even more.

It matches!

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

We went to this beach resort about a year ago and I remember how the porcelain switch plate covers matches the wallpaper of the entire room we occupied! I didn’t know that you can buy special switch covers that can match your room design. I told my sisters that should we have to change the switch plate covers at home, I want it to match the wall paint.

If only I have lots of money in my disposal our home would be more comfortable and cozier to live in.

Oh, well. Very soon…

Unique favor

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

They are both golf players. They actually met at a golf course while he was competing in a national tournament while she’s enjoying a leisurely game with her friends. He almost hit her with the golf ball so he came over and apologized. That apology led to a friendly match that turned into a date and blossomed into a relationship.

Now the golfers are getting married! Since they met through their love of golf, they thought of giving away a golf ball for their wedding guests. They agreed and now all they are looking for is a golf ball printing service that will fit their budget.
