This 2012 it will be more of ME and the immediate family than OTHERS.
That will be the difference of this year from the past ones. I intend to prioritize all the important stuff and stop with the unnecessary purchases and needless spending.
I will be more active by going out more and trying out something I am scared off. An adventure is in order!
Three out of the country trips and two pricey gadgets.
Set aside an emergency fund once and for all.
What’s going to be different for you this year?

What’s the most on fire you’ve ever been? Figuratively. Literally. Whatever.
Back in 2007, I literally just go to sleep for 3 hours and spend the rest of the day in front of the computer working. When I have to go out, I would compensate for the lost time by sleeping for less than that. I had to keep working and earning because I was already out of the corporate world and made writing a full time job.
There was also this one time when I was already lying down on my bed. It was a long day of nonstop writing for me and I was ready to sleep. But for some reason, it was 2 in the morning that time, my mind suddenly felt recharged and I wanted to write again. I got up, booted the laptop and what do you know! For 2 hours straight, I was able to create more than 20 articles!
I was really on fire!

What are your professional goals for the next year?
I plan to be back in the corporate world. Actually, I’ve been away from it for years. I just want to be able to go back smoothly. I want to earn more this year and the succeeding years so as to buy a new house and lot for the family and a car for myself.
But let me also tell you that I am planning to go back to school this year or next. I am not really planning to taking a masters but possibly a new course. An AB in English to be exact. I am also debating with myself whether to take up IT as I’ve been wanting to do this for a couple of years now. It will be a choice between the two but this year it will be most likely.
So I am really planning on going back to the corporate world possibly not as an accountant anymore but maybe in IT or a job commensurate to an English degree student.

Describe a great boss you’ve worked with.
I had this really great boss who was also my mentor. She was the type of boss who lets you do your work alone. She didn’t hover. She wasn’t like others who breathe down your neck when there’s a deadline to meet. She would ask you when you could give the reports to her and that’s it. If there’s something she wanted you to do, she would ask you if you knew how and when you could give it to her. I don’t know exactly the type of authority she wielded over us but I can say that it’s based on trust.
She thought me so many things that I was able to use as I climbed the corporate ladder. For that I will always be thankful to her.

What do you miss most about childhood?

I miss most the fact that I could rely on my parents to make all the bad things go away and for things to be better in the morning. I miss most the freedom to depend and rely on the elders around me. I miss the days when I had nothing to worry about but how to extend play time.
That’s what I miss most about childhood. The freedom to just be happy and let the elders do the worrying for me.

Which do you prefer a dark or a bright room?
I used to like being in the dark. I loved how a dark room meant silence and privacy. I also couldn’t sleep if the light was on. But you know when my brother died I started associating a dark room to death. I am not scared that I might see the ghost of my brother, no. What I don’t like is the idea of being alone and how it feels like death is closing in on you.
So now I am fine with the lights on when I go to sleep. I still don’t like a bright room but a dim one, not really dark, will do.

Do you get along with your siblings?
I do. I am the eldest. I have three sisters and two brothers. I lost a brother back in 1998. I wasn’t that close to my siblings when we were really young because I live with my grandma and grand-aunts on weekends. Plus, I loved playing with my cousins while my siblings stay at home.
But my mom wanted us to bond and grow up really close with each other so she made me play with my siblings more and instilled in me this idea of being my siblings’ protector and guide in life. Since then I made sure that I’m with my siblings when I wasn’t in school. I made sure that I knew where they were and that they didn’t get into mischief. I made sure that they were always out of danger. And in return, they really started treating me as their older sister.

Do you have any Sunday evening rituals that you do before the new week begins?
I sleep early on Sundays as much as possible. I really want to start my Mondays right by waking up around 5 or 6 in the morning and working before 7am strikes. I also make sure that on Sunday evenings I’ve written down what I need to do for the week ahead. Short-term goals. I also list down tasks I need to finish by the end of the coming week.
What are your Sunday evening rituals?
